Flying first class with United Airlines

Hey there aviation geeks! So, I’m recounting a recent flight I took from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco that I took with United Airlines (flight 922). I flew in one of their 737-800s and was especially excited about this flight for one major reason: it was my first experience flying first class with this airline.

I’ll get to that in one moment, but first, let’s talk about United’s check in process. Like most airlines, you have the option to check in online or at the airport. While I wanted to check in online, I couldn’t… I wasn’t able to add my TSA Pre status to my boarding pass. That’s a minor hiccup though, it just meant that I had to leave a little bit earlier for my flight. That’s not something I mind doing at all! When I got to the airport, I headed over to the United Airlines desk and thankfully, it wasn’t too busy. There, the agent explained that there was a slight issue with my TSA Pre information which was why I ran into troubles. She fixed it quite quickly. After that, my experience going through security was stress-free and just as simple. I would give this whole process four stars.

Once I breezed through security, I headed to my gate to see if the aircraft had arrived. When I got there, the ground crew was waving her into the gate. Soon after that, we started boarding so I grabbed my bag and ticket and headed down the jetway. When I first stepped on to the aircraft, I was greeted by a friendly crew who offered to help me put my bag in the overhead bin. My seat was right at the front: 2A. When I got to my spot, I could tell that this aircraft was pretty old because the seat beside mine was completely torn up. I actually felt bad for the passenger next to me. This aircraft didn’t have TVs on the back of the seats either so right away I noted that travellers should probably bring something to keep them entertained. One thing I did appreciate was that there was Wi-Fi on board meaning I was able to get busy editing my photos and trip reports.

As we pulled out and headed towards the runway, the flight attendant took breakfast orders. I chose the omelette with sausage and home fries with a glass of apple juice. Just after that, we sped down the runway and were off!

Overall, I thought this flight with United Airlines was great. For me, the friendly and helpful crew made for an enjoyable experience start-to-finish. I also noticed that due to bad weather conditions, we experienced some turbulence and that the pilot did a great job in getting us through it safely. The service was excellent and if it weren’t for the aesthetic of the ripped seats, it would have been perfect. Overall, I feel like this flight deserves four out of five stars.
