My Zurich To Toronto flight was a plane spotters dream
Travel in Zurich is a dream. On a recent visit, I travelled with Air Canada. My flight (A330) was a premium economy class ticket which whisked me back home to Toronto.
I checked in without problems online the night before (that’s always the best way to save time in lineups which I feel can be better spent plane spotting at the observation deck). Anyone who knows me knows that I love airports and this one offered stunning views of the ramp. When the planes took off and came in for landing, they were so close that I felt like I could just lean over and touch them. If you haven’t browsed through my photo gallery yet, I suggest you do. The shots from this spot in the airport were incredible—even if I do say so myself.
After all that pre-flight spotting, I headed through security. There were no problems there either (*sigh of relief*). To get to my gate, I had to take a quick train ride. I arrived just in the nick of time to see my own plane landing. I was impressed to say the least. As I stood there, I watched the grounds crew and the cleaning crew. Everything was so fast and so incredibly efficient! It was like the aircraft was ready to go in no time at all. The next thing I knew, I heard them saying the Toronto flight was all ready for boarding. I headed to the desk, they scanned my ticket and away I went.
I walked onto the aircraft, put my bag in the overhead bin and settled into seat 3A. I prepared for a long flight knowing it would be about eight hours and 33 minutes until I arrived home. Knowing I had some hours to fill, I took out Air Canada’s little amenity kit. In it was an eye mask, a pair of ear plugs and a couple of different types of lotions. They also offered a pillow and blanket for a cozy journey. Pre-flight, the flight attendants came around to offer a choice of beverages (water or orange juice) and once I was settled in and ready for the journey, the plane was off heading down the runway.
Once airborne, breakfast was just about ready to be served. It looked delicious however I declined as I had eaten beforehand. Instead, I got to scrolling through the movie options. Impressed with the selection, I chose Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. A couple hours and plenty of laughs later, it was time for me to get some sleep. I took a nice long nap and when I next opened my eyes, we were flying over Nova Scotia. At this point, the attendant came through the cabin with burritos on offer (yum!).
Not too long after that, we got word from the captain: we were to begin our descent into Toronto. I opened up the window shade and peered down at my city’s downtown core. I was home. For me, that was a five-star flight thanks to great food, a friendly crew and great movies and amenities.
