I Fly Over Traffic

Hello AvGeeks! Today I am flying from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport located in the heart of Toronto. I’m off to Muskoka Lake which is about three hours outside of Toronto in cottage country. I will be flying with a small airline called Fly GTA.

You may be thinking ‘how come I haven't seen or heard of them?’.Simple answer is,they don’t fly to major airports like Montreal, Ottawa or Chicago. They solely focus on small cities around Toronto such as St. Catharines, Kingston and the Muskoka Lakes. You might be surprised to know, their fleet size is only eight planes. Now, let me tell you about my experience with them.

One of my favourite things about Fly GTA is their low prices during busy times of the summer. Today, I’m flying up north on a Friday night at 7pm which you might assume would be a very popular time. I thought the same so I booked my ticket well in advance! When I booked it showed the flight was half full which was not surprising. Oddly,on the day of my flight I received a call from Fly GTA saying that I was the only passenger booked for this flight and that the airplane was ready and I could leave whenever I wanted to! I was shocked, a private ride up to Muskoka?! I grabbed my bag and boarding pass and headed to the airport. When I arrived, I walked into the lounge which was very nice and had perfect views of the tarmac. Sadly, there wasn't much action to see but I did get to see my pilots doing one final walk around of the aircraft.

It was time to climb aboard my aircraft which was a piper pa 31 navajo with an expected flight time 45 minutes. Once airborne, I decided to just listen to some music and enjoy the view of lake Simcoe. Before I knew it we were already on final approach into Muskoka.

Overall, this was by far the best flight I have had with Fly GTA. I think the thing I was most impressed with was that instead of making me wait until 7pm they called me and told me i could leave whenever i wanted. I left 4 hours earlier, on a flight to myself with fantastic service. Thank you Fly GTA!
